In 1991 when we presented the Simon Bates Show on BBC Radio One for a week, we featured each day a special mix of current dance music. We commissioned the mixes from 808 State, Kenny Ken, Sasha, Frankie Knuckles and Carl Cox. At the time, it was amazing to hear dance music at 10.30 in the morning on Radio One and the mixes got a great reaction from the listening public. Someone has just uploaded all of the five mixes to Soundcloud (we have no idea how they got hold of them…). Check them out at the link below. Neil x (Thanks to Wayne Studer for alerting us to this.)

We’re both very sad to hear that Steve Strange has suddenly died. In the late 70s he created the London club scene which was the next big thing after punk and from which 80s pop grew. He was also a sweet man and has gone too young. R.I.P. Neil and Chris xx
We have recently contributed a theme tune to an online music show made in Berlin. The show is called “The One-Hit Parade” and features live performances from new artists. The first show will be available online from February 16th. Our theme is called “One hit wonder” and we recorded it late last year. It is based on an instrumental we originally wrote in late 1981, one of our first compositions! You can hear a snippet of it on the show’s official website (link below). Neil x
With Sam Taylor-Johnson’s film of “Fifty Shades of Grey” getting its world premiere tomorrow at the Berlin Film Festival, it seems an appropriate time to remind ourselves of her PSB-produced homage to Marlene Dietrich, “I’m in love with a German film star”. Video link below.
Surrounded by old tapes, DATs, CDs etc for a forthcoming reissues project. It’s always interesting to see what forgotten gems turn up! Back to songwriting next week. Neil x
