August 1983

Neil is sent to New York by Smash Hits to interview The Police. By this time the Pet Shop Boys are obsessed by a stream of hi energy records made by New York producer Bobby Orlando, known as Bobby O’. “I thought well, if I’ve got to go and see The Police play then I’m also going to have lunch with Bobby O’ ”. Neil and Bobby O share a cheeseburger and carrot cake at a restaurant called The Apple Jack on August 19th (two years to the day since Neil and Chris met) and Bobby O’, flatered by Neil’s compliments, suggests making a record with the Pet Shop Boys.

1991

PSB protegé Cicero returns to his home town of Livingston, Scotland, for a performance to celebrate the release of his first single, ‘Heaven Must Have Sent You Back to Me,’ co-produced by the Pet Shop Boys. Neil attends the show this evening, accompanied by their handler/assistant Dainton Connell.

1995

Chris makes a brief cameo appearance on the popular Australian TV soap opera Neighbours.

2000

The Trades Union Congress lists Neil among 250 entertainers who endorse a hotline to help reduce racism in U.K. workplaces.

2002

The Boys appear on Top of the Pops, performing ‘I Get Along.’

2018

The second of four consecutive nights of PSB shows at London’s Royal Opera House. Earlier this same day, it was announced on the Boys’ website that the book One Hundred Lyrics and One Poem by Neil Tennant would be published November 1.

2019

Neil, together with Frances Barber and Jonathan Harvey, films interview segments to promote the upcoming production of Musik. Later Neil works with Frances on some of the spoken segments of its songs ‘to get the timings right.’
