August 1983

Neil is sent to New York by Smash Hits to interview The Police. By this time the Pet Shop Boys are obsessed by a stream of hi energy records made by New York producer Bobby Orlando, known as Bobby O’. “I thought well, if I’ve got to go and see The Police play then I’m also going to have lunch with Bobby O’ ”. Neil and Bobby O share a cheeseburger and carrot cake at a restaurant called The Apple Jack on August 19th (two years to the day since Neil and Chris met) and Bobby O’, flatered by Neil’s compliments, suggests making a record with the Pet Shop Boys.

Percussionist Jodie Linscott records her parts on several Release tracks, including ‘Home and Dry’ and ‘I Get Along.’

2006

The Pet Shop Boys appear at the Summer of Music festival in Warsaw, Poland.

2009

They perform in Tampa, Florida.

2012

A very big, busy day for our musical heroes. First they appear on an early morning TV show in Berlin. Then they catch a flight back to London in time to perform several songs (including ‘Winner’) at the end of the Olympic/Paralympic Parade near Buckingham Palace. And, as if that weren’t enough, their new album Elysium is released today in Britain.

2014

Neil attends Kate Bush’s concert this evening at London’s Eventim Apollo (which is still better known by its semi-legendary earlier name, the Hammersmith Odeon).

2017

The Boys perform this evening at Bestival in Dorset, U.K.

2022

As they note today on their official website, Neil and Chris are enjoying a few days in New York City before heading off to Toronto to begin their Unity Tour with New Order.
