1970 — 1971

Neil plays in a group in Newcastle called Dust: Their most popular song is a preposterous affair he has written called “Can you hear the dawn break?”. They are heavily influenced by The Incredible String Band. “We were convinced we would become terribly famous. It was a very kind of stoned seventies but we used to think it was absolutely brilliant at the time”.

1989

Derek Jarman notes in his diary that he has learned that censors in Hong Kong are ‘up in arms’ on account of some of the background visuals (including a shot of two boys kissing) that he had provided for the Pet Shop Boys’ recent performance there.

1997

The Boys perform ‘Somewhere’ on Top of the Pops.

2001

Chris and Neil work on the ‘1971 version’ of the Billie Trix song ‘Run, Girl, Run’

2007

Neil records narration for two parts of a three-part BBC Radio 2 documentary about the music of Noël Coward. Afterwards he attends a Damien Hirst exhibition at London’s White Cube gallery.

2009

The Boys perform at Denmark’s Roskilde Festival.

2014

They appear in concert at the State Opera House in Vienna.

2023

The Dreamworld Tour comes to Finland’s Helsinki Ice Hall.
