1970 — 1971

Neil plays in a group in Newcastle called Dust: Their most popular song is a preposterous affair he has written called “Can you hear the dawn break?”. They are heavily influenced by The Incredible String Band. “We were convinced we would become terribly famous. It was a very kind of stoned seventies but we used to think it was absolutely brilliant at the time”.

‘Please Please Me’—one of the few songs with the distinction of being mentioned in a PSB lyric (‘Nothing Has Been Proved’)—is released in the U.K. as the Beatles’ second single.

1987

BPI awards a U.K. gold record to Disco and a platinum album to Please.

2012

The Boys begin recording ‘Memory of the Future,’ the first track they’re working on with Andrew Dawson, the co-producer of their next album.

2015

Using a musical idea that Neil had recently sung into his cellphone, the Boys begin work on a new track titled ‘You Are the One’ (soon to be retitled ‘The One I Want,’ though it will eventually revert to its original title), which they will continue to develop over the next few days.
