Pet Shop Boys’ 1987 hit “Always On My Mind” has just been voted the best cover version ever by BBC Music listeners.
Earlier this month, BBC Music (which covers all BBC music radio channels) asked its listeners to choose their favourite song cover ever. A panel of radio presenters then cut down the list to 50 songs and invite the public to vote on their favourite. The results were announced this evening and the top five was:

4 Jimi Hendrix — All Along The Watchtower
3 The Stranglers — Walk On By
2 Johnny Cash — Hurt
1 Pet Shop Boys — Always On My Mind
Neil Tennant was interviewed live on The Simon Mayo Show on Radio 2 as the results were announced.

To mark the centenary of Sergei Eisenstein’s legendary silent film, “Battleship Potemkin”, a restored version made by Deutsche Kinemathek, featuring the celebrated score by Tennant and Lowe of Pet Shop Boys, will be released for the first time in cinemas and on a two-disc Blu-ray and CD package by the BFI.
