World Arts Award 2003

Pet Shop Boys last night attended the World Awards 2003 where they were presented with the World Arts Award 2003 by former Soviet President, Mikhail Gorbachev.
The award was given to Neil and Chris for “for their extraordinary dedication to art, their social engagement and their unique contribution to popular music as well as their overall patronage of the arts.”

The previous winners of this prestigious honor include Paul McCartney (2001) and Michael Jackson (2002).

In his acceptance speech at the Awards ceremony which are dedicated to the ideals of peace and freedom, Neil quoted Jimi Hendrix: “When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.”
Later on in the ceremony, Neil and Chris performed their new single, “Miracles”.
